Savage Messiah
Hands Of Fate
December 2017
Released: 2017, Century Media
Rating: 4.0/5
Reviewer: John Haseltine

The fourth album by UK thrashers Savage Messiah may be a surprise to some and just an evolution to others. The band’s debut on Century Media has all the makings to be big with an almost commercial metal aspect to it.

Upon first listen, I figured the Savage Messiah I thought I knew must have been another band. I will admit, I am not up to speed on the band but in my head, I thought they were heavier. I know I have something from them around here somewhere.

So what we have here is yes, the new album HANDS OF FATE. The direction that the band has taken from some of their previous works does tend to be a bit on the lighter side than the fans have been used to. Now when I say this, it is not to take away from this album’s actual heaviness as it is overall, a powerhouse of a release. It seems as if evolution has taken over here as with many bands. It could just be the natural musical direction of a band or the need to survive. With the tracks included on this outing, there should be no worries about survival as all are very well done. Hats off!

Savage Messiah has gone down a bit of a power metal or a melodic thrash sound. I know, melodic thrash as a description does sort of sound stupid, but the elements are all there. Very catchy riffs with what can be said as an almost radio friendly chorus. And that is with pretty much the whole album. Superb musicianship no doubt.

For fans of Iced Earth, Judas Priest, Sanctuary, Bullet For My Valentine and the likes. For you diehard fans of their earlier works, you have to admit that this is a kick-ass album!
