Pathology
Pathology
December 2017
Released: 2017, Comatose
Rating: 3.0/5
Reviewer: John Haseltine

There is something to be said about brutal, guttural death metal with an almost grind feel to it. What is it you ask? I cannot honestly say. It has been around for many years now and has a devout following and a plethora of acts. There are probably more festivals dedicated to the genre than any other. But I still don’t get it.

Pathology has released their 9th studio effort which they self-titled. As far as the music goes, it is not actually too bad. From what I can remember from earlier releases, their sound has changed up a bit on this one. It is a groovy bludgeon to the head. It is a fierce blend of slamming riffs with some insane blast beat drumming. It has its slower moments, (which by all means are not slow in tempo).

What I cannot wrap my head around are the belching style vocals. I do apologize to the band and their fans, but it really sounds like a bunch of burps and belching all dubbed together and tracked with some pretty decent music. I would like to hear some real vocals (or just slightly clearer) to the music. If that could happen, we’d be on to something!
