Acid Witch
Evil Sound Screamers
December 2017
Released: 2017, Hell's Headbangers
Rating: 3.0/5
Reviewer: John Haseltine

Acid Witch has returned with a new ensemble of instructions to make your way through Halloween and the houses of horror.

Dubbing themselves as “Halloween metal”, it makes sense after a little research. Not knowing at first listen may give a different sense of direction. Hailing from Detroit, Acid Witch has been playing their theme filled metal since 2007 with EVIL SOUND SCREAMERS being their 3rd full-length release. They do have a vast assortment of Eps and split releases as well.

So musically, Acid Witch is a blend of a bit of psychedelic doom, a bit of death metal, with a touch of sludge. Or stoner. Both are about the same to me. The actual songs that are not of the soundtrack variety roll off really well. It is a bit of a journey listening to this release.

There is nothing really too original in the sense of the music here. I give the band credit for the vision though. The story line, in order for the album to make much sense needs to be listened to in order. I can safely say, after a couple spins, Acid With will sort of grow on you. Not necessarily for everyday consumption, but one for the spirit of Halloween. Or should I say spirits?
